The rumoured new LEGO Star Wars UCS Death Star is now said to include roughly 40 minifigures – but who could the LEGO Group include to reach that record-breaking number?
The last Ultimate Collector Series Death Star – 2016’s 75159, a slightly-tweaked re-release of 2008’s 10188 Death Star – topped out at 27 characters total, and included in that count are the likes of an Interrogation Droid and Mouse Droid. 75419 Death Star is now rumoured to include as many as 40 minifigures, setting a new record for LEGO sets everywhere – as you might expect for a model said to cost $1,000.
But if 75159 Death Star managed to tick off every major character from A New Hope and Return of the Jedi with just 25 proper minifigures, who could the LEGO Group include to take the new version to 40 total? Let’s go through the list of characters associated with the Empire’s fully armed and operational battle station to see if we can reach that lofty figure…
Note: all images used in this feature are taken from previous LEGO Star Wars Death Star sets.
The heroes

These are all non-negotiables for a Death Star set, and the LEGO Star Wars team knows it: they’ve all appeared in both previous UCS Death Star playsets. We can safely assume they’ll all pop up here again, hopefully with new and improved minifigure designs to help justify the mammoth price tag attached to 75419 Death Star.
We’re talking Han Solo with dual-moulded and side-printed legs (as per 75222 Betrayal at Cloud City); C-3PO with his dual-moulded silver leg; R2-D2 with back printing; and so on. We can probably also expect multiple versions of Han and Luke in their various Death Star outfits to mirror previous sets.
- Han Solo (A New Hope, Stormtrooper)
- Luke Skywalker (A New Hope, Stormtrooper, Return of the Jedi)
- Princess Leia
- Chewbacca
- Obi-Wan Kenobi
- C-3PO
- R2-D2
Running total: 10
The villains

This is where the LEGO Group really has the chance to go obscure – and to take advantage of the fact that the Death Star has appeared in another movie since 75159 Death Star debuted on shelves. Incorporating Rogue One into the fold would open the door to a new Director Krennic minifigure, as well as our first-ever Dunstig Pterro.
Click here for some background on the rest of the named Imperials on this list, many of whom you’ll recognise by their face if not their name. Including these named characters is an easy way to bolster 75419 Death Star’s minifigure count, and we know the LEGO Group is happy to dig into obscure territory with its flagship sets – just look at 75290 Mos Eisley Cantina,
- Darth Vader
- Emperor Palpatine
- Grand Moff Tarkin
- Director Krennic
- Admiral Yularen
- Shann Childsen
- Edmos Khurgee
- Pol Treidum
- Cassio Tagge
- Conan Antonio Motti
- Dunstig Pterro
Running total: 21
The rank and file

Here’s where the numbers can get a bit more elastic, but if the new LEGO Death Star really does cost twice as much as the last one, you can reasonably expect it to be a bit bigger – and you’ll therefore need more troops to man the various rooms and corridors. An extra couple of Stormtroopers and Death Star Troopers would be a great start in that scenario.
Turning to Rogue One for named villains would also merit throwing in a couple of Death Troopers, which are already said to be returning to the LEGO Star Wars line-up in this summer’s 75412 Death Trooper & Night Trooper Battle Pack.
- Stormtroopers x4
- Death Troopers x2
- Royal Guards x2
- Imperial Officers x2
- Death Star Troopers x4
- Imperial Navy Troopers x2
Running total: 37
The droids

And that just leaves us with the droids. Here again is a chance for the LEGO Star Wars team to throw in a couple of exclusive designs to increase the appeal for minifigure collectors, but we also wouldn’t be surprised to see 75419 Death Star revisit the staples with new versions of an RA-7 protocol droid (previously called a ‘Death Star Droid’ in the 2016 set) and R2-Q5.
Sub in whichever protocol or astromech droids you like, and the maintenance droid could also just be an Assassin Droid (as per the 2008 version), but the finer details don’t really matter here: Imperial counterparts to Artoo and Threepio are what we’re after, plus another droid to round out the total.
- RA-7 protocol droid
- R2-Q5 astromech droid
- Maintenance droid
Final total: 40
That takes us to the magic 40, suggesting there is indeed enough material for the LEGO Group to mine in a Death Star set to reach that record-breaking number. There’s one major caveat to address here, though: there would be an awful lot of very similar-looking Imperial Officers, even with the named characters, who are not what you’d necessarily call visually distinctive.
Still, it’s hard to see where else the LEGO Star Wars team could turn for new and unique characters (a problem we’ve seen in sets as recently as last summer’s 75394 Imperial Star Destroyer). If we do end up getting a bunch of identikit Imperials, we’ll hopefully at least see some new and improved takes on the classic heroes and villains of these movies to help justify that $1,000 price tag a little more.
75419 Death Star is rumoured to launch in October 2025 for $999.99 in the US. Don’t take that (or the supposed minifigure count) as gospel just yet, though: best to wait for confirmation from the LEGO Group before getting your hopes too high. And that’s probably some way off yet…
