Another LEGO MASTERS alumnus joins the design team in Billund

Another former contestant on LEGO MASTERS is joining the official design team in Billund, further cementing the TV-show-to-LEGO-designer pipeline.

This time it’s LEGO MASTERS USA Season 3 winner Nick Della Mora (who took top prize alongside building partner Stacey Roy) who’s making the move to Billund, Denmark to become an official LEGO designer, following in the footsteps of previous LEGO MASTERS contestants including Boone Langston and Aaron Newman.

“Who would’ve imagined that 27 years after this photo was taken, this seven-year-old kid that was just discovering his love for LEGO building would be landing his dream job!” Nick wrote on Instagram. “I’ll be starting June 1, moving to Denmark about a week before that, and doing what I’ve always loved doing most: building cool things that excite and inspire people, but now I’ll be doing it officially for actual LEGO sets!”

You might recognise Nick from his social channels, including Twitch, where he streams LEGO-related content under the handle BrickinNick. He’s also a part of the LEGO Ambassador Network as a Recognised LEGO Fan Media (although presumably he’ll be stepping back from that program in the next couple of months).

Nick isn’t the first – and likely won’t be the last – adult fan of LEGO (AFOL) hired in a design capacity. Prominent AFOLs-turned-designers include Mark Stafford, Justin Ramsden, Milan Reindl, Alberto Sadun, David Guedes (another LEGO MASTERS Season 3 contestant) and of course the aforementioned Aaron Newman and Boone Langston.

Given the timeline for designing new LEGO sets, we probably won’t see Nick’s first official models on shelves until 2028. But as with all AFOLs-turned-designers, it’ll be interesting to follow his career at the LEGO Group…
