California deputies recover $1 million in stolen LEGO sets

Deputies from California have recovered $1 million in stolen LEGO sets from freight trailers after traffic stops earlier this week.

Deputies from the Kern County Sheriff’s Office Mojave Substation announced on Facebook on April 9 that the day before, they had responded to reports of suspicious vehicles in the area of Silver Queen Road. It was discovered that two box trucks were fleeing the area, and they were able to conduct traffic stops on the vehicles, identifying three individuals.

The box trucks were then revealed to be filled with LEGO sets, at a reported loss of around $1,000,000. That's worth around 1,001 copies of 75419 Death Star, but it has not been revealed what sets or products had been stolen.

The trailers were stolen while in transit from Fort Worth, Texas, to Moreno Valley, California. That's around two hours from the location where they were reported to have been seen.

Deputies have recovered the stolen LEGO and freight trailers, and all three subjects were placed under arrest for possession of a stolen vehicle, cargo theft, and conspiracy. While LEGO thefts are uncommon, they're not usually quite as prolific as featuring $1 million worth of products. This is the highest-value theft reported so far, beating a previous amount valued at $400,000 (USD) recovered in Texas.
