First LEGO Speed Champions 2024 rumours include BMW debut

The first rumoured details on next year’s LEGO Speed Champions line-up have raced into view, teasing the long-overdue debut of BMW to the theme’s growing garage.

Product numbers and price tags for four LEGO Speed Champions sets first surfaced in August via price comparison site brickmerge.de, painting a worrying picture for the evergreen theme: one of fewer sets and higher prices. The single cars are reportedly receiving a price bump from €24.99 to €26.99, while the larger set is now expected to cost a full €5 more than 2023’s 76918 McLaren Solus GT & McLaren F1 LM.

Four sets is also a 20% reduction from the recent template of five models per year (either as three single cars and two double-packs, or four singles and one double), although there’s nothing to say Brickmerge’s list is completely comprehensive for LEGO Speed Champions in 2024. And fresh rumours from Instagram user 1414falconfan (via Polish fan site Fanklockow) have at least now given us some insight into what those four sets might entail.

According to those sources, two of the three smaller sets will be hooked to a Ford Mustang and an Audi, though details of specific variants have yet to be revealed. We’ve seen two Mustangs under the Speed Champions branding since 2016, but none since the theme switched from six-stud-wide vehicles to eight-stud-wide in 2020. The most recent was 2018’s 75884 1968 Ford Mustang Fastback.

Audi, meanwhile, is another veteran of the theme, with a total three sets to its name so far – including one among the first wave of eight-stud-wide sets, 2020’s 76897 1985 Audi Sport Quattro S1. A new LEGO Speed Champions Audi could take its cues from LEGO Technic’s 42160 Audi RS Q e-tron, if not with exactly the same model then at least with a more modern vehicle.

The licence partner for the third smaller set is still an unknown quantity, but Fanklockow reports that the two-pack – 76922, which apparently includes 676 pieces for €49.99 – will consist of a pair of BMWs. That would mark the manufacturer’s debut in LEGO Speed Champions, following its introduction to LEGO Technic with 2017’s 42063 BMW R 1200 GS Adventure and 2022’s 42130 BMW M 1000 RR.

Remember that these details are all just rumours for now, and should be taken with a grain of salt until the LEGO Group formally unveils its LEGO Speed Champions line-up for 2024. Until then, there are plenty of cool current cars to add to your growing garage, including this year’s 76916 Porsche 963 and last year’s 76908 Lamborghini Countach.
