Hideo Kojima reveals latest LEGO addition, with unfortunate timing

Legendary video game creator Hideo Kojima has revealed his latest LEGO acquisition, but the timing of his social media post is unfortunate.

When it comes to celebrity LEGO enthusiasts, video game legend Hideo Kojima is known for his epic collection of sets. The Metal Gear Solid creator frequently takes to social media to show off his latest acquisitions, revealing which new models he’s managed to pick up.

Such was the case with a recent Instagram post, one that showcased Kojima holding up a large box containing 10318 Concorde. The LEGO Icons build launched on September 4 for VIP (now Insiders) members, with the 2,083-piece model priced at £169.99 / $199.99 / €199.99.

The 18+ set should be just the sort of building challenge Kojima will relish, with the video game creator having previously obtained the likes of 10300 Back to the Future Time Machine, 75331 The Razor Crest, 10323 PAC-MAN Arcade and many others.

However, those who follow Kojima on Instagram may have been surprised by the timing of his most recent social media activity, especially given 10318 Concorde’s subject matter. The post dropped on September 11, also known as 9/11, the date when many in the world remember the loss of life caused when two planes were used in terrorist attacks and flown into the World Trade Center’s Twin Towers.

A number of comments left on Kojima’s Instagram account flag up this sensitive subject and were surprised by the posting, although one message does suggest that the post may have originally been made on September 12, due to the time zone difference between Japan and the USA.

Despite any potential controversy surrounding the timing of the post, Kojima remains a huge LEGO fan and might just have been unaware of the date when he revealed the set to the world. There’s been no response from the video game creator since the Instagram story went live, but it’s unlikely Kojima’s many followers should read anything into his radio silence.
