A rumoured LEGO Spider-Man 2024 set already has the perfect companion piece available on shelves – but it’s retiring any day now…
The LEGO Marvel theme’s potted range of helmets and busts has taken its sweet time getting to our friendly neighbourhood superhero, but Spider-Man is now rumoured to be receiving his own head sculpt in January 2024. Said to be coming in at $69.99, 76285 Spider-Man Helmet (which is presumably not its final name, given Spidey famously wears a mask rather than a helmet) would match the price tag of several of its predecessors.
Among those are two other Spider-verse characters that somehow managed to blag a bust before the main man himself, Venom and Carnage. The two symbiotes arrived on shelves in 2021, ostensibly serving as a loose tie-in to Venom: Let There Be Carnage, and offering very similar builds. Which made sense: these are two very similar characters in design, save for their colours.
While 76199 Carnage has already long retired (and now commands an average new price of £81.44 on BrickLink), 76187 Venom is still available – but time is quickly running out to add the symbiote bust to your collection, as it’s due to retire by the end of 2023. Several retiring sets have already started selling out at LEGO.com, so there’s no telling exactly when 76187 Venom will disappear.
It’s unfortunate timing, because anyone buying Spidey in 2024 (if he is indeed on the way) would surely be more inclined to pick up Venom as a companion piece. But if you wait until Peter Parker comes along in January, you’ll have to resort to the aftermarket to add 76187 Venom to your LEGO Marvel collection, as is already the case for 76199 Carnage. And who knows how much it might cost then…
76187 Venom is currently available at LEGO.com for £59.99 / $69.99 / €69.99. If you add another £35.01 / $30.01 / €30.01 of LEGO Disney, Marvel or Star Wars sets to your order, you’ll qualify for 40659 Mini Steamboat Willie, which is free with qualifying purchases across those themes until October 31 (or while stocks last).
76285 Spider-Man Helmet is still just a rumour for now, of course – courtesy of 1414falconfan (via brick_clicker) – so take its existence with a grain of salt until we get official confirmation from the LEGO Group. But you might not want to risk missing out on 76187 Venom just in case…
