LEGO Icons 10327 Dune Atreides Royal Ornithopter revealed

LEGO Dune is officially a thing: the LEGO Group has unveiled the brand new 10327 Dune Atreides Royal Ornithopter, which brings the movie’s insect-like vehicle to life in 1,369 bricks.

Based on the 2021 film helmed by Denis Villeneuve, the LEGO Icons model delivers a function-filled build that’s crammed to the roof with an eclectic cast of characters. There are minifigures of pretty much every notable character, whether they’re associated with the Ornithopter or not, which suggests this might just be our one and only LEGO Dune set (for now, anyway).

Included in the box are Paul Atreides, Lady Jessica, Gurney Halleck, Chani, Leto Atreides, Liet Kynes and Duncan Idaho, all based on their silver-screen appearances in the current adaptation. There’s also Baron Harkonnen, complete with his lengthy robes that – in combination with the implant that allows him to hover – make him appear abnormally tall.

The model itself includes more functions than you can shake a sandworm at, from flexible rotor blade wings that can push back, pop out and shift in parallel to fully-retractable landing gear. It’s essentially built for swooshing – see designer Mike Psiaki demonstrate as much in our latest YouTube video – so if you’re the kind of adult who likes to unleash their inner child with their LEGO (and surely that’s most of us), this is the set for you.

Dune: Part Two was originally scheduled to premiere in November this year, but has faced delays as a consequence of the writers’ and actors’ strikes in Hollywood – and will now hit screens in March 2024 instead. By contrast, 10327 Dune Atreides Royal Ornithopter is slated to land on shelves on February 1, 2024. That’s not really an issue given it’s technically based on the first movie, though (the designers started putting it together immediately after leaving the cinema in 2021).

“Like fans across the world, we were fully enraptured by the epic Dune when it released – so our return to Arakkis in Dune: Part Two was the perfect opportunity to bring this iconic craft to life in LEGO brick form,” Mike said. “Builders can now recreate this impressive ship with amazing detail, whether to proudly display or recreate their favourite scenes from the epic Dune saga at home.”

10327 Dune Atreides Royal Ornithopter will retail for £149.99 / $164.99 / €164.99 and is available to pre-order from today, with a release date of February 1.
