LEGO Disney 40659 Mini Steamboat Willie officially revealed

LEGO Disney 40659 Mini Steamboat Willie is now listed at the official online store, revealing fresh images of the gift-with-purchase and suggesting it won’t be a shopDisney exclusive.

The miniaturised version of 2019’s LEGO Ideas 21317 Steamboat Willie is due to be available with purchases of $150 or more at shopDisney from October 15 in the US, representing a real rarity for LEGO GWPs (which are traditionally available exclusively at LEGO.com and in LEGO Stores). The model now has a full product listing at the official online store, however, where it’s labelled as a gift-with-purchase.

That suggests it will indeed be available through official channels too, lining up with early details from a Thai LEGO Certified Store, which reported that 40659 Mini Steamboat Willie would be available from October 23 to 31. The 424-piece model is entirely monochrome – just like the bigger LEGO Ideas set – and is listed with a value of £21.99 / $24.99 / €24.99 (though is not available to buy separately).

It’s a pretty substantial free gift, and even includes a Mickey Mouse minifigure. That typically doesn’t bode well for the minimum spend required – each of this year’s Houses of the World models has commanded an order value of at least £220 / $250 / €250, for example – but Bricks Thailand LEGO Certified Stores claims 40659 Mini Steamboat Willie will be free with a 5,000 THB spend.

That works out to roughly £110, so we could be looking at a surprisingly reasonable threshold in the UK, US and Europe. Better still, the same store suggests you’ll be able to pick it up by reaching the required spend across Disney, Marvel and Star Wars sets. Fingers crossed that same availability applies in official LEGO Stores, too.
