LEGO Art 31212 The Milky Way Galaxy officially revealed

The LEGO Group has officially revealed 31212 The Milky Way Galaxy, its latest three-dimensional LEGO Art set – and the newest addition to this year’s cross-theme LEGO Space range.

Constructed from five separate panels, the 3,091-piece set makes use of a huge spread of LEGO elements – from flowers and food to minifigure utensils and crystals – to produce an incredibly colourful representation of our galaxy, complete with a ‘you are here’ sign. The finished model is readymade to hang on your wall, and measures 40cm tall, 65cm wide and 5cm deep.

Budding astronomers will be able to spot a variety of different stars, clusters and constellations across the model, from the Pillars of Creation and the Crab Nebula to Trappist-1 and the Pleiades. Don’t know what any of those things are? Don’t worry: like all LEGO Art sets, 31212 The Milky Way Galaxy will be accompanied by an exclusive podcast to listen to while you’re building, and this one sounds super informative.

LEGO Group host Jack Gardner Vaa is joined by Camille Bergin (a former aerospace engineer now better known as Galactic Gal online), Dr. Maggie Aderin-Pocock (Chancellor of the University of Leicester) and LEGO designer Adam Vaughan for the podcast, which was recorded specifically for this set. And while the LEGO Group hasn’t teased any further details, that line-up looks pretty promising.

You’ll be able to check it out for yourself while piecing together the framed 31212 The Milky Way Galaxy from May 15 if you’re signed up to the LEGO Insiders program, when this LEGO Art set launches in early access. It’ll go on sale for everyone else from May 18, priced at £169.99 / $199.99 / €199.99.
