The launch of Series 7 of the LEGO BrickLink Designer Program wasn't without the usual tech issues, as shoppers were briefly unable to take part.
Series 7 of the LEGO BrickLink Designer Program has now started its crowdfunding phase, and in what is becoming a common occurrence for the program, it saw some tech issues on LEGO.com affect the earliest shoppers.
Reports from multiple users online claim that the official online store wasn't able to handle the traffic and that the provided links would not function, or that LEGO.com wouldn't load at all. Brick Fanatics' team experienced these problems firsthand.
Something similar happened at the start of Series 6, but the issue was amended within the first half an hour of pre-orders. Based on Brick Fanatics' testing as crowdfunding began and reports online, it would appear that it was the same issue. You may have found that links weren't functioning or that the results of clicking those links were delayed. It even briefly impacted other functions on the official online store, crashing the site completely for some.
At the time of writing, these issues are now all resolved, and the official online store is working again. Those who attempted to get their pre-orders of the five Series 7 sets in early may want to double-check their basket, though.
"Make sure you reload the site and check the quantity in your cart when it finally does load," writes Morningxafter on Reddit. "Often you’ll get the error and not see it in your cart, but it’s added it every time; it just didn’t show it."
Our tests confirm that the results of clicking the links can just be delayed. At one point, there were multiple copies of 910061 Antique Collection in our basket after attempting to click the link on the BrickLink website multiple times, with no immediate results. Double-check the contents of your basket before you complete your order, and how much it all costs.
This isn't the first time that the LEGO Group has faced tech issues early on in a BrickLink Designer Program series, likely caused by demand. Some online are at least able to find the humour in this situation.
"Guys, give Lego a break," jokes Angelic_Razgriz. "They're a small indie company with limited resources and no previous releases of this magnitude to forecast the website going down."
