LEGO Crocs Brick Clog: Reactions and pricing confusion

LEGO Crocs Brick Clog: Reactions and pricing confusion

The reveal of the LEGO Crocs Brick Clog has sparked plenty of polarising reactions from the wider fan community, especially regarding the price of the shoe.

We had an initial look at the LEGO Crocs Brick Clog yesterday, a blocky pair of red shoes that are due to drop worldwide next month and represent the first offering from a multi-year partnership between the two companies. The response to the unique footwear has drawn an unsurprisingly passionate response from the LEGO fan community, with many calling out the look and price of the product.

“THEY’RE WHAT???? That’s almost as expensive as my special wide running shoes,” wrote ScribScrob on Reddit. “ I would pay maybe $30 for these things, not $200. Unless I'm misremembering, Crocs are just moulded foam? So what the hell is making these cost so much?”

That sentiment was echoed by fellow Redditor Content-Rock-2927 who said, “For $199 on LEGO or $149 at Crocs is ridiculous. The models can't even walk in them properly. They look like clean shoes! These are higher than some Adidas and Nike shoes. I've so many Crocs and have been buying them for 18+ years and I will not be buying these! I'll buy a LEGO modular instead!”

We flagged that confusing price disparity in a previous story, noting that the shoes retail for £199.99 / $199.99 / €199.99 on LEGO.com and are currently shown as being $199.99 on the Crocs US homepage, but clicking through to the latter listing has the Brick Clog at $149.99.

Both versions of the LEGO Crocs appear to be identical, right down to the non-exclusive minifigure included in the box, one that also comes with four pairs of its own Brick Clogs to wear.

It’s not been all negativity though, with some embracing the ridiculousness of the oversized footwear and looking forward to picking up a pair of the LEGO Crocs when they’re released in a few weeks.

“I used to feel the same way until my husband got me a pair to wear around the farm and they are pretty much indestructible,” wrote barnhardontcare on Reddit. “After a while, you start to think they’re kind of cute too. It’s an acquired taste. You need exposure therapy to Crocs in order to enjoy them lol.”

“These are definitely more of a meme product akin to the Big Red Boots,” Redditor Bamres posted about the striking footwear MSCHF released in 2023. “I think they're hilarious as a concept product, but you need to be a very specific type of eccentric fashion person to wear these publicly.”

The LEGO Crocs Brick Clog launches on February 16 for £199.99 / $199.99 / €199.99 and can be purchased from LEGO.com and the official Crocs online store.
