New LEGO Harry Potter Death Eater minifigure is designed for (expensive) army building

The brand new LEGO Harry Potter Death Eater minifigure arriving on shelves next month is seemingly designed with army building in mind.

September sees the launch of a long-awaited Wizarding World set in 76417 Gringotts Wizarding Bank Collectors’ Edition, and nestled among its 13-strong minifigure line-up is an unnamed Death Eater. While the Deathly Hallows novel sees Harry, Ron and Hermione come face-to-face with Travers as they attempt to break into Gringotts, the Death Eaters glimpsed at the bank on-screen are never named.

As a result, the Death Eater included in 76417 Gringotts Wizarding Bank Collectors’ Edition is as generic as they come: dressed all in black, and with no identifying features. That’s bad news for anyone hoping to add another specific character to their collection, but great news for folks hoping to build their own Death Eater minifigure army.

These aren’t Clone Troopers, though – and as much as they might wear similar outfits, the Death Eaters we see in the movies don’t all look entirely alike. The real genius of this new Death Eater minifigure, then, is in its double-sided head, which provides two different masks for the warriors of Voldemort’s army.

That means you can freely amass a good handful of these Death Eaters without looking like you’ve just popped back from Kamino – and pair them with the previous LEGO Death Eater minifigure from 2019’s 75965 The Rise of Voldemort for even more variety. “But wait,” we hear you say, “doesn’t the new Gringotts set only include one Death Eater?”

Yes, that’s true – and it retails for a staggering £369.99 / $429.99 / €429.99, so nobody’s going to be buying multiple copies for a single minifigure. But now that this double-sided head piece is in circulation, there’s every chance we might see it pop up in a smaller and cheaper set further down the line, while it should also be accessible through BrickLink in the months after Gringotts’ release (though it’s tough to say what price it might command).
