Initial development on the first wave of LEGO Fortnite sets began over three years ago with the creation of one specific model.
The first four LEGO Fortnite sets are due to arrive online and in stores on October 1, the date when fans will finally be able to pick up 77070 Durrr Burger, 77071 Supply Llama, 77072 Peely Bone and 77073 Battle Bus.
The video game builds represent the first physical sets to emerge from LEGO Fortnite, just over 10 months after the new mode was added to the Epic Games title. However, development on the LEGO Fortnite models actually began more than three years ago, as revealed to Brick Fanatics in a recent roundtable interview.

“The collaboration really kicked off in August 2022,” explained designer Erik Jensen, “and we had a week-long session where we invited Epic Games over to work with us. We came up with all kinds of crazy concepts – a lot of different builds. We also had a couple of workshops where we developed features, monsters and vehicles."
"We went through a lot of concepts. Actually, it's funny. Over three years ago we created the first sketch of the Battle Bus. That was very early days, when Epic Games was coming over, just for meetings, just to discuss a potential collaboration. When I heard about that, on my own, I mocked up a LEGO Battle Bus. It looks awful compared to the final build!"

"As we were in the concept phase, developing what LEGO Fortnite could be, we were going all over the place. We were developing the Battle Bus and imagining it in-game as a potential mobile base, or a giant resource harvesting kind of thing. But at the end of the day, we decided to just keep the Battle Bus as its iconic self and capture the way it's seen.
I'd also say we did probably nine or 10 different variations before we finally landed on the final look for [77071 Supply Llama]. I think there were probably four or five different sketches, varying sizes, trying to just get it right.”
You’ll be able to pick up all four LEGO Fortnite sets when 77070 Durrr Burger, 77071 Supply Llama, 77072 Peely Bone and 77073 Battle Bus are released on October 1.
