One of the six newly-confirmed LEGO Ideas sets from the first 2025 review has forced the LEGO Group to ‘create new guidelines’ to ensure it’s as safe as possible.
Five new projects from the first 2025 review and one project from the second 2024 review (which had been placed in the Parking Lot for further consideration) have just been given the green light by the Ideas team, including Go Go Power Rangers!, Smurf Village, La Catrina, Ramen, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial and Downton Abbey: Highclere Castle.
While some of those are familiar territory for the LEGO Group – buildable characters, mechs, buildings and so on – one stands out in particular for being completely different to the usual brick-built fare. That’s Micdud’s Ramen, which serves up a customisable dish with 12 different ingredients, so you can cater it to your individual taste. What you can’t do is then eat it… but try telling that to the kids.

It’s a concern the Ideas team is fully cognisant of, and Design Manager Jordan Scott says the LEGO Group is actively taking steps to limit the possibility of a kid coming across this set and trying to chow down.
“We feel like the adult portfolio has grown so much and we see food as a huge passion point that we can really tap into,” Jordan says. “There’s ways that we have to go about this though to be safe, because even though it’s for 18+ you cannot guarantee that some kid might not pick this up and see it as actual food. So we’ve been taking a lot of steps to create new guidelines for how we can build food.
“The submission is a great starting point, but we need to develop it further. But it’s an awesome new territory for us to explore.”
Exactly what these ‘guidelines’ are remains to be seen, but it’ll be interesting to see how the LEGO Ideas designers strike the balance between an authentic model and one that still looks very much like plastic rather than real food. Ideas sets typically take anywhere from 12 to 18 months to hit shelves once approved, so we’ll probably have to wait until late 2026 or even early 2027 for the results.
