The build itself of LEGO Icons 10320 Eldorado Fortress build stands out from the original set in one major way that you can see immediately: it's modular. That means it separates out into what looks the main fortress tower, the smaller tower with the admiral's office, a watch tower, and a section of the wall with a crane. You can display the four major sections in a line, or group them together into a more compact structure.
Zooming in on the details, there's an interesting use of elements to create gaps in the stone walls, using small rounded plates to add depth and texture to the walls, making them appear as rugged as a pirate fortress would. What's more, there are secrets hidden in the very stones that the fortress sits on, such as the dead man hidden away below one of the towers.
LEGO Icons 10320 Eldorado Fortress interactive features
A lot has gone into making 10320 Eldorado Fortress just as much fun once the building is done as it is to construct. There are a number of different interactive features, including the crane at the top, the cannons perched along the walls, a working trapdoor, and secret rooms providing a hidden escape route for your minifigures when they're in a bind.
LEGO Icons 10320 Eldorado Fortress display
As noted above, the modular design of 10320 Eldorado Fortress can be displayed in several ways. This means you can make the latest LEGO Icons set work for any space, whether that's a narrow shelf or a compact table. With two boats ready to accompany the fortress wherever you place it, it's certainly an imposing set to display, pairing well with any other marine-focused builds.
LEGO Icons 10320 Eldorado Fortress box
Not only does LEGO ICons 10320 Eldorado Fortress return to the same structure and rough design of an older set, but the box art also evokes LEGO sets from a former time. The wide image accented with yellow on the front, as well as the pirate-themed style on the reverse, is much more in keeping with LEGO boxes from days past, rather than the often more muted, black boxes that LEGO Icons sets often get nowadays.
LEGO Icons 10320 Eldorado Fortress tribute
Of course, virtually everything about 10320 Eldorado Fortress, from the white-brick walls to the returning cast of minifigures, is a callback to 6276 Eldorado Fortress. However, the set is also a tribute to LEGO Pirates sets in general, with the galleon making us overwhelmingly think of the vintage ‘90s outpost, 6277 Imperial Trading Post.
