The designer behind this year’s new LEGO Jurassic Park Jeep Wrangler has revealed that the 18+ model is actually four sets in one.
77984 Jurassic Park Jeep Wrangler rolls on to the scene on May 7, finally bringing the iconic car from the 1993 movie to shelves at the scale of LEGO Icons vehicles such as 10295 Porsche 911 and 11376 Ford Model T. But if you remember the original Jurassic Park film, you’ll also know that there isn’t a one-size-fits-all Jeep Wrangler that can accommodate every scene in which it appears.
In fact, there are no fewer than four different variants of the vehicle in that first movie, each with a different number. Jeeps 18 and 29 show up at the start of the film and are used to transport the main characters around the island when they first arrive; Dennis Nedry attempts to flee in Jeep 12 after stealing the dino embryos; and Ellie Sattler and Robert Muldoon escape from the T. rex in Jeep 10.
There are also subtle design variations between those vehicles beyond their numbers – and the good news for Jurassic Park diehards is that the new LEGO Jeep Wrangler caters to every single one of them right out of the box, as LEGO designer Henrik Saaby told Tiago Catarino.

“We [are] actually able to make four kinds of Jeeps,” Henrik said. “In the movie there are four different Jeeps, and the variation is of course [with the] roof, without roof, without roller cage, and then the small numbers on the number plates and the hood on the side are changed. You can do the same with your Jeeps.”
Henrik explained that 77984 Jurassic Park Jeep Wrangler’s build is the same for every variant up to a particular point, and then branches off depending on which version you’d like to end up with.

“If you want to go for the chase, then you leave it like this, putting on number 10 for that. Or you can put on the roller cage and then put in number 29 or 18, or you can go for the full one with the roof and the top light, number 12, and then you have the Nedry scene. So you can choose your choice on the way. It's the same kind of base, but it's a choice you can make.”
The 1,924-piece model includes a brand new and exclusive minifigure of Nedry, complete with his hood up and a can of Barbasol, to represent the scene Henrik referenced there. That’s the ‘full’ version of the Jeep, so it makes sense to act as the default version for the model – but if you want to pair its display stand with any of the other relevant characters from your collection, you have the power to do so right out of the box.
Is it worth picking up four copies of 77984 Jurassic Park Jeep Wrangler to have all the different configurations on display at once? Maybe if you’ve got your own LEGO island on which to display them. For the rest of us, it’s just nice to know the LEGO Group has acknowledged the various Jeeps seen throughout the movie.
