LEGO Jurassic World: Rebirth sets make T. rex more accessible – but there’s a catch

A LEGO T. rex will be more accessible than ever before in the new wave of Jurassic World: Rebirth sets, but there’s a pretty big catch with this latest king of the dinosaurs…

LEGO Jurassic World has reused 2012’s Tyrannosaurus rex mould six times since 2015, and it’s turning up for the seventh time under this banner in June’s 76975 T. rex River Escape. At £44.99 / $49.99 / €49.99, this 199-piece set will match 2022’s 76944 T. rex Dinosaur Breakout for the cheapest set yet to include a fully-grown T. rex – and accounting for inflation, it’s technically the most accessible it’s ever been.

That’s great news for anyone who hasn’t previously fancied stumping up for Jurassic World’s more expensive sets, from 2018’s 75933 T. rex Transport all the way up to 2023’s 76961 Visitor Centre: T. rex & Raptor Attack. But look a little closer at 76975 T. rex River Escape and you’ll see that there’s a catch to getting a cheaper T. rex – and we’re not just talking about the poor price-to-piece ratio of this June 2025 release.

Where previous Tyrannosaurus rex figures have included printed claws and toes, those on the dino in 76975 T. rex River Escape are left blank. It’s a move LEGO fans have already criticised as a ‘cost-cutting measure’, pointing to other recent examples such as the Allosaurus in 2024’s 76966 Dinosaur Missions: Allosaurus Transport Truck and the Pyroraptor in 2022’s 76951 Pyroraptor & Dilophosaurus Transport.

The T. rex is now the latest LEGO dinosaur to fall foul of stripped-back printing, removing details that were present in previous versions. So while you are getting a relatively cheaper way to add one to your collection this summer, it also won’t quite match the standard set by older LEGO Jurassic World and Jurassic Park sets – unless, of course, this is just a stylistic choice specific to Rebirth's T. rex.

Alongside its eponymous dino, the 199-piece 76975 T. rex River Escape includes a small riverside building, dinghy, quad bike and two minifigures of Xavier Dobbs (played by David Iacono) and Teresa Delgado (portrayed by Luna Blaise). You’ll be able to get your hands on it from LEGO.com, in LEGO Stores and from third-party retailers from June 1, 2025 for £44.99 / $49.99 / €49.99.
