Mario Kart's in-game vehicles look to have been accurately recreated in the newly-revealed and upcoming LEGO Super Mario 2025 sets.
We got an official glimpse today of six LEGO Super Mario sets based on the hugely popular Mario Kart video games, with the first wave of models due to arrive online and in stores from January 1, 2025.
In addition to brick-built characters such as Yoshi, Toad, Donkey Kong, Lemmy and cute baby versions of Mario, Luigi and Peach, the upcoming LEGO Mario Kart sets also come with customisable vehicles from various games in the iconic racing series.
The good news for Mario Kart fans is that the brick-based interpretations of each racer look to be fairly accurate and include printed and stickered pieces. In fact, despite their inherent blocky nature, each of the vehicles seems to channel the spirit of its digital cousin pretty accurately.
Yoshi Bike
An unlockable sport bike that first appeared in Mario Kart 8, the two-wheeled racer is in fact based on the look of Yoshi himself. The green and white egg elements are present and correct in 72031 Yoshi Bike, although we don’t know at this stage if the spindle arms can be repositioned to simulate the vehicle’s glider mode.
Standard Kart
Making its debut in Mario Kart DS, the Standard Kart is a fairly basic vehicle, but one that’s ideal for novice drivers. Recreated as part of 72032 Standard Kart, the red, blue and white racer features room to slot a digital LEGO Super Mario figure into its seat to activate a variety of authentic sounds and fun interactive functions.
DK Jumbo
Essentially a customised wooden barrel on four wheels, the DK Jumbo debuted in Mario Kart: Double Dash!! A heavyweight kart and signature ride of Donkey Kong, the vehicle makes its first brick-built appearance in 72033 Donkey Kong & DK Jumbo and is actually based on the racer’s revised look as seen in Mario Kart Tour.
Biddybuggy and Tri-Speeder
Also known in the English version of Mario Kart 8 as Buggybud, 72034 Baby Mario vs. Baby Luigi’s Biddybuggy is primarily used in the game by smaller characters. The unlockable vehicle changes colour depending on who’s driving it, with the red and blue look being featured in the LEGO Super Mario set.
The model also comes with a brick-built version of the Tri-Speeder, as driven by Luigi, another unlockable vehicle that appeared in Mario Kart 8. The green, three-wheeled racer features an open V-twin engine with a question mark block on the front, plus flame-spitting rear exhausts.
B Dasher
72035 Toad’s Garage is a mid-range LEGO Mario Kart set that includes the B Dasher, a skinny white vehicle that debuted in Mario Kart DS. Based on the Honda RA272, the first Japanese car to win a Formula 1 race, the kart is a balanced ride complete with mushroom emblem on the hood and large grey exhausts.
Wild Wiggler, Landship kart and standard bike
Rounding out next year’s LEGO Mario Kart builds is the largest model in the first wave, 72036 Baby Peach & Grand Prix Set. The three included vehicles are Wild Wiggler from Mario Kart 8 (one of the few ATVs in the game), the unlockable Landship (also from Mario Kart 8) and a standard bike that first appeared in Mario Kart Wii.
The Wild Wiggler is inspired by the yellow Mario foe of the same name, complete with a flower on its head, plus tiny legs and purple wheels. The Landship is based on a wooden pirate ship, complete with lamp, while the standard bike matches its on-screen counterpart with a red, blue and white colour scheme, plus mushroom logo.
You'll be able to get your hands on all of the LEGO Mario Kart sets when the six models race into stores from January 1, 2025.
