A new tidbit surrounding a specific room in LEGO Marvel's 76294 X-Men: The X-Mansion will both excite and disappoint Classic Space enthusiasts.
76294 X-Men: The X-Mansion's recent reveal has focused on the Marvel side of the model, which is understandable considering its source material. As noted in our guide to the references in the set though, the bust in the lobby depicts an astronaut with a white Classic Space helmet. According to Ashnflash though, this bust was almost a much more exciting colour for Classic Space collectors.
The YouTuber states that the designer behind 76294 X-Men: The X-Mansion tried to get the bust coloured in light bluish grey, including the helmet but in the end, the team decided to colour it white instead.
"The designer of the set tried to get a light bluish grey bust here so that it could have the helmet for the first time in that colour," states AshnFlash. "Unfortunately when it came to recolouring a piece for the mansion or a print for a figure because of the allocated budget, they chose to let it be white."
Exactly how they came about this information is unclear but it seems likely to have been obtained at the 2024 fan media days, from which a wealth of content focusing on 76294 X-Men: The X-Mansion has surfaced this week. It's worth noting that a grey helmet was featured in three old LEGO Castle sets, but it's still exceedingly rare.
Provided that this statement is accurate, it's interesting to learn that one of the designers behind the LEGO Marvel model attempted this colour for the bust, as it would have finally completed the grey Classic Space astronaut, which currently has to use a modern LEGO helmet.
Please note that this colour wheel includes the five proposed minifigure colours as part of a LEGO Ideas fan vote, not all of which will be made.
While this would have been a relief for Classic Space collectors, it's unfortunately not the case as 76294 X-Men: The X-Mansion only includes another white helmet piece. Thankfully, Classic Space is continuing in the future with one more colour of minifigure confirmed for a LEGO Ideas set and rumours of a Blacktron build next year. We can only hope that one day there will be a chance for a grey helmet at last.
