LEGO Marvel's 76281 X-Men X-Jet revisits an older set by tying into a current project and there's one other model that needs the same treatment.
Just one look at the box art of 76281 X-Men X-Jet showcases the similarities between it and 76022 X-Men vs. The Sentinel. The 2024 LEGO Marvel model comes 10 years after the original X-Men set with much of the same minifigures – Magneto, Cyclops and Wolverine. Their builds are somewhat different but both feature the X-Jet as their main model, but that doesn't hasn't stopped the set from being worth around double its original price on the secondary marketplace.
There's little doubt that 76281 X-Men X-Jet is revisiting the same concept as the 2014 model and the release of X-Men '97 on Disney+ in 2024 may have been the ideal excuse for the Marvel design team to remake the original X-Men set. There's at least one other classic Marvel model that could do with a remake and an upcoming project that may be a similarly perfect excuse.
2012's 6866 Wolverine's Chopper Showdown includes the only widely-released LEGO Deadpool minifigure. It features Deadpool, Magneto and Wolverine with a helicopter that may need some attention in a theoretical remake.
While the character has featured in more mature projects in the years since, Deadpool and Wolverine are soon to feature in the third Deadpool film and it looks to be one of only a few Marvel Studios projects coming in 2024. Considering this, a remake of the 2012 LEGO Marvel set similar to 76281 X-Men X-Jet could bolster the theme in 2024 as well as offer enthusiasts another way to pick up rare and desirable characters as minifigures.
Nothing more has been confirmed for LEGO Marvel in 2024 beyond 12 sets launching in the first few months of the year. For now, 76281 X-Men X-Jet suggests that there's at least some precedent for revisiting older superhero sets and minifigures. Expect it to launch on January 1, 2024 for £74.99 / $84.99 / €84.99.
