Monkey Palace is now available to order through select third-party retailers, marking the arrival of the first LEGO board game released by CATAN and Ticket to Ride publisher Asmodee.
Designed by Dotted Games and Bezzerwizzer Studio, Monkey Palace is a jungle-themed strategy game for two to four players, who must work together to rebuild the palace while competing to create taller staircases and score maximum banana points. It’s intended for players aged 10 and up, and a single game is estimated to take around 45 minutes.
While Monkey Palace is currently on sale at the LEGO House in Billund, there’s no sign of it at LEGO.com just yet – but it is available to order with immediate delivery from Amazon in the UK, where it costs £34.97. It’s also available through a few third-party board gaming retailers, such as Gamers @ Hart, where you can pick it up for as little as £31.

In the box you’ll find a 32x32-stud LEGO baseplate, 231 LEGO bricks, 67 monkey cards, 14 bonus cards, three trophy cards, four player boards, two ground maps, a brick tray and a rulebook. The product description suggests that ‘each game is unique’ thanks to multiple paths to victory and playing boards, and the game is designed to encourage creativity and replayability.
The LEGO Group’s Board Games Lead Jaume Fabregat has previously explained that building is integral to Monkey Palace, in a way that it wasn’t for the LEGO Games theme that debuted in 2009. “If players enjoy LEGO building, we want them to be constantly building, unbuilding and rebuilding with the bricks,” he told Brands Untapped. “Our goal was to make a board game where players enjoy the endless possibilities [of] the LEGO system.
“For example, with Monkey Palace, players will receive a handful of LEGO bricks that should be used to rebuild the collapsed palace. Nobody knows what the ancient palace looked like, and the only help is the little monkey living there. While sometimes the monkey may be more of a hindrance than a helpful hand, it will reward the players the higher they build.”
If you want to find out how to play Monkey Palace before your copy arrives, or just prefer to watch someone explain the game rather than read through the rulebook, Watch It Played has already provided a complete breakdown over on YouTube.
