Those in the US and Canada will soon be able to take part in an upcoming in-store event and learn how to construct their own LEGO Star Wars SMART droid.
LEGO Stores regularly host fun events, most of which are usually centred around small make and take models, but this month will see things taken to another level. A LEGO Star Wars: Droid Workshop will be taking place on March 21 in the US and Canada, giving visitors the chance to get hands-on with the new LEGO SMART Play system too.
Pitched as a one-hour Level-Up Workshop, the LEGO Star Wars event will allow attendees to design, build and customise their very own free droid, then bring their creations to life by interacting with the current line-up of LEGO SMART Play sets.
A total of four different droids are shown in the main image for the LEGO Store workshop, similar to some of those in the now-retired 75392 Creative Droid Play, with the R2-D2 model having already been added to the official Product Certification page, and the likelihood that guests will be able to assemble the rest on the day.
What hasn’t been revealed so far is exactly how the Droid Workshop creations will interact with existing LEGO SMART Play products, as the former lack SMART Tags. It’s possible that the specific colour of each droid may trigger some sort of effect when placed next to a SMART Brick, but that’s yet to be confirmed.
Spaces for the LEGO Star Wars: Droid Workshop are limited and you’ll need to make a booking at your nearest participating location here in advance. The LEGO Store event is recommended for kids aged 9-12 and attendees will be able to take their galactic builds home with them after the event has concluded, although separate LEGO SMART Play sets are required in order to continue the adventure.
