If you thought LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy couldn't get any more unhinged, Pieces of the Past might prove you wrong.
We've already had a chaotic taste of what's to come in Rebuild the Galaxy: Pieces of the Past in the trailer but, judging from what returning star Tony Revolori (who voices Dev Greebling) said in a recent interview, the team felt more comfortable to take risks coming into the second season. The fan response to the first gave them the confidence to push even further beyond the already wild energy of the LEGO Star Wars show.
“I can relax a little bit," said Revolori. "I can play a little bit more.”
That's echoed in comments from others who worked on the show, with co-writer and executive producer Dan Hernandez noting that he was open to incorporating ideas from the cast and crew. Sig Greebling's orange lightsaber, for example, was the idea of voice actor Gaten Matarazzo.

“I think one of the beautiful things about having continuity when you've worked together before is that then people do feel more comfortable and that extends not just to the actors but to the production, the animation team, Chris Buckley our director – everyone,” said Hernandez. “We want to elevate everyone else’s ideas. They have spent years perfecting their craft. If they have an instinct, we should follow it; 99% of the time, something amazing comes out of it.”
“There were times where Tony [Revolori] would do an amazing take, and we thought ‘All right, we got it,'” said fellow writer and producer Benji Samit. “And Tony would say, ‘No, I'm gonna go again. I know what I need to do.’ He would do one more take, and it would be even better. Everyone was on the same page about wanting this to be as good as it could possibly be.”
As the cast and crew promise more risks and more creativity, what does that actually mean in practice? Naturally, those working on Pieces of the Past are keeping some secrets up their sleeves, but one area that we know is on the way is a full Skywalker family reunion, with the Queen Amidala minifigure already spotted in the trailer.

“The thing we honed in on is this may be the only opportunity to ever see the Skywalker family unit, to get all four of them interacting with each other," explained Samit. "It felt like something that maybe we could be the only ones to show that to the fans and to ourselves.”
Somehow, Padme is going to enter the show via pirates – whatever that means.
“Pirates are such a big part of Star Wars,” added Samit, “We wanted to do our fun, more LEGO-ish take, and that's where she came from.”
LEGO Star Wars Rebuild the Galaxy: Pieces of the Past will air on September 19 on Disney+, with all four episodes dropping on the same day.
