LEGO Star Wars SMART Play debuts on the biggest screen in the world

The Las Vegas Sphere has been transformed into a giant live interactive LEGO Star Wars game to promote the upcoming LEGO SMART Play System.

The LEGO Group unveiled its new SMART Play System at CES 2026 this week, a tech-based platform that combines SMART Bricks, Tags and Minifigures for an altogether different play experience. To promote the upcoming release, plus the imminent arrival of three LEGO Star Wars sets tied to the launch, the Danish company joined forces with Lucasfilm and Sphere Studios to create a unique interactive event like nothing seen before.

The Las Vegas skyline was lit up this week as the 366-foot high Exosphere was transformed into a brick-built Death Star video game. Lucky attendees were able climb into the cockpit of a near life-size LEGO Star Wars X-Wing set up outside the location and launch into a thrilling recreation of the iconic trench run from Episode IV.

The first-ever interactive game to be played on the 580,000 square foot Exosphere required brave Rebel pilots to blast away at Imperial ships and gun towers via a control stick and in-cockpit screen, before attempting to launch proton torpedoes into the small thermal exhaust port in order to destroy the fearsome battle station.

“This interactive Exosphere experience – which brings LEGO SMART Play and Star Wars to life on an unprecedented scale – marks the first collaboration to leverage Sphere’s new immersive Exosphere technologies, and exemplifies how brands can utilize Sphere to connect with their fans in new ways,” stated Marcus Ellington, Executive Vice President, Ad Sales and Sponsorships, Sphere.

“I’ve been a massive Star Wars fan my entire life - from dressing up as Anakin Skywalker at my childhood birthday party to my on-field look inspired by his character," said special guest Jaxson Dart, quarterback for the New York Giants. "Tonight, I felt like a kid again, stepping into the giant LEGO X-Wing and lighting up the Las Vegas skyline in honour of my favourite movies. I’m thrilled to be here celebrating the future of LEGO Star Wars and to share my passion for that galaxy with the next generation of Star Wars fans."

The first wave of three ‘All-in-One’ LEGO Star Wars SMART Play sets will be available to pre-order tomorrow and then launch online and in stores on March 1, 2026.
