LEGO Super Mario minifigures will include familiar ‘friends and foes’

Familiar ‘friends and foes’ will be included in next year’s LEGO Super Mario minifigure line-up, alongside role-play action builds based on iconic environments.

LEGO Super Mario will be going through something of a major makeover in 2027, with the video game’s blocky interactive characters making way for highly-anticipated minifigures. In addition to a previously-revealed first-ever Mario minifigure, even more familiar faces will be joining the iconic plumber, backed up by minifigure-scale sets.

An FAQ on the theme’s homepage on LEGO.com has recently been updated, adding more information on what fans can expect from LEGO Super Mario next year. Those extra details include confirmation of ‘well-known friends and foes in minifigure form’ as part of the Nintendo theme’s ‘refresh’, suggesting multiple characters are likely to be arriving throughout 2027.

What’s more, the LEGO Super Mario landing page also mentions that we’ll get to see ‘builds centred on creative minifigure role-play action’ and that upcoming models will feature ‘iconic characters and environments from the Super Mario Universe!’

That certainly sounds like a big swing for the LEGO Super Mario theme going forward, one that has already delivered more than 100 different sets to date. With Mario celebrating his 40th anniversary in 2026, there’s certainly no shortage of potential source material for models that might be on the way next year, although no specific builds or characters have been revealed so far.

In addition, the theme’s landing page states that the LEGO Super Mario app will continue to be supported until at least December 2028, so previous interactive sets will still function as normal, at least for the foreseeable future.
