Five things we love about the new LEGO The Lord of the Rings minifigures

The new LEGO minifigures in 10316 The Lord of the Rings: Rivendell have a lot to love, from updated details to brand new pieces.  10316 The Lord of the Rings: Rivendell isn’t far from release now as excitement builds for the biggest LEGO The Lord of the Rings set by far. However, the giant build isn’t the only enticing aspect of 10316 The Lord of the Rings: Rivendell as its minifigures have some notable features too.  While we wait for the new LEGO The Lord of the Rings set, here are five things we love about its new minifigures, which include the entire fellowship. 

5 – Boromir’s new shield

[gallery columns="2" size="full" link="file" ids="99999999299149,99999999299150"] In what is only the second LEGO Boromir minifigure, the depiction in 10316 The Lord of the Rings: Rivendell wields a different shield than in 9473 The Mines of Moria.  Using the alternate piece commonly used for Captain America’s shield with additional printing, this updated shield is more accurate to the franchise with a touch of gold to boot. 

4 – Gimli’s updated helmet

[gallery columns="2" size="full" link="file" ids="99999999299151,99999999299152"] Looking closely at Gimli’s helmet in 10316 The Lord of the Rings: Rivendell compared to his older minifigure, it’s not the same brick.  The front shaping of the helmet is more pronounced with less shaped detail on the sides. Updated and more detailed printing completes the helmet available exclusively in 10316 The Lord of the Rings: Rivendell. 

3 – New pointed ears hair piece

[gallery columns="5" link="file" size="full" ids="99999999299153,99999999299157,99999999299154,99999999299155,99999999299156"] As is to be expected for a Rivendell model, there are many elves in 10316 The Lord of the Rings: Rivendell, all using the same new hair piece.  From Legolas to Arwen, this pointed ear and hair combination brick comes in two colours for blond and dark brown hair. 

2 – Dual-moulded short legs for all the hobbits

All five hobbit minifigures in 10316 The Lord of the Rings: Rivendell use the same short leg piece but that doesn’t make it any less notable.  This piece is dual moulded to have flesh on the bottom half, representing the characters’ lack of footwear, not something that we saw in any previous LEGO The Lord of the Rings set. 

1 – A familiar expression

We’ve already reported on how 10316 The Lord of the Rings: Rivendell’s official images embrace an iconic meme based on the franchise, but that's thanks in no small part to an expression featured on the new Boromir minifigure.  The face from the meme is featured as one of two expressions you can customise Boromir with to recreate various Rivendell scenes.
