The very slow race is on as LEGO BDP Series 3 sets inch closer to selling out

Two of the remaining three LEGO sets in Series 3 of the BrickLink Designer Program are inching closer to selling out – but will they manage to do so before the clock stops ticking?

That’s the not-so-thrilling race currently underway at BrickLink, where those of us checking these things every day can see the red line getting closer and closer to ‘MAX’ for The Art of Chocolate and Harbormaster’s Office, while Lost City languishes somewhere still near the starting post. It’s far from high-octane entertainment, but it’s still worth keeping an eye on if you’re mulling over whether to buy any of these three remaining sets.

This crowdfunding round officially closes on October 31 at 9pm UK time, so you’ve got a little over two weeks (at the time of writing) to take the plunge. But given around 80% of Harbormaster’s Office’s 30,000 sets have already been claimed, and roughly 90% of The Art of Chocolate’s full allocation, the odds seem very much in favour of those two selling out before the deadline.

If this is the first you’re hearing of the BrickLink Designer Program, let’s get you up to speed: each round consists of five sets designed by LEGO fans and selected by the LEGO Group. To enter production, each build must reach at least 3,000 pre-orders, which has happened for all 15 sets in the program so far. A maximum of 30,000 copies of each set are available to pre-order.

This time round, two of the five sets – Forest Stronghold and Camping Adventure – sold out in a matter of hours, while sales have been relatively steady on Harbormaster’s Office and The Art of Chocolate. Lost City, by comparison, has only sold around 20% of its total 30,000 copies and looks nowhere near in danger of selling out by Halloween.
