We’re now firmly in the second half of 2024, so it’s time to start thinking about the retiring LEGO sets you won’t want to miss out on before the year’s up.
It’s around this time of year that we start to see the LEGO Group lock in retiring dates through December, with minimal changes now expected to the current list of LEGO sets retiring by the end of 2024. That means you can more firmly plan out your shopping list for the remainder of the year, deciding what to buy, what to skip – and what to prioritise around specific gifts-with-purchase.
If you want to get your hands on 40692 Candy Store, for example, now is a great time to start working through your retiring wishlist. The microscale shop is available with all orders above £180 / $200 / €200 through July 31, or while stocks last. You can check out the full list of LEGO sets retiring in 2024 here, but given there are hundreds of products to peruse, we’ve done the hard bit and picked out seven sets worth pushing to the top of the pile.
Whether because we’re unlikely to see anything like them again, they represent the best of their respective themes or they might just balloon in price on the aftermarket, here are seven retiring LEGO sets you shouldn’t miss out on in 2024.
7 – 77015 Temple of the Golden Idol
Price: £129.99 / $149.99 / €149.99 Pieces: 1,545 Release date: April 1, 2023

Probably the best LEGO Indiana Jones set the LEGO Group has ever released – and indeed may ever release, given there are no signs of further sets on the horizon – 77015 Temple of the Golden Idol is a perfect blend of play and display, incorporating interactive features into a diorama-style model. It’s a format that could teach LEGO Star Wars a thing or two, and cemented it as our top LEGO set of 2023 at the end of last year. Don’t miss it.

6 – 21338 A-Frame Cabin
Price: £159.99 / $179.99 / €179.99 Pieces: 2,082 Release date: February 1, 2023

Not all LEGO Ideas sets enjoy the same shelf life, and 21338 A-Frame Cabin looks to be heading out the door slightly earlier than most of us would have anticipated. It’s a shame because it’s genuinely one of the most aesthetically-pleasing minifigure-scale sets the theme has ever put out – even if its trees do get a bit laborious to construct – and it’s well worth grabbing while the going’s good.

5 – 76218 Sanctum Sanctorum
Price: £214.99 / $249.99 / €249.99 Pieces: 2,708 Release date: August 1, 2022

Pretty much any LEGO set that’s part of an ongoing series climbs in price once it exits production. You only need to look at the retired modular buildings to know that – and it’s not difficult to see the same fate befalling LEGO Marvel’s own series of modular buildings, starting with 76218 Sanctum Sanctorum. The good news is that this one has enjoyed pretty heavy discounts since launch, and you can currently cop it at Amazon for only £169.99 in the UK.

4 – 76252 Batcave – Shadow Box
Price: £344.99 / $399.99 / €399.99 Pieces: 3,981 Release date: June 5, 2023

While it didn’t arrive to a glowing reception, 76252 Batcave – Shadow Box is something of a sleeper hit for the LEGO Batman theme. There’s certainly a lot to love about the model as both a concept and a display piece, and given it’s due to spend only a year and a half on shelves, this could end up being one Batcave plenty of people end up regretting overlooking once it’s gone.

3 – 10320 Eldorado Fortress
Price: £189.99 / $214.99 / €214.99 Pieces: 2,509 Release date: July 4, 2023

10320 Eldorado Fortress only arrived on shelves a year ago, so to see this reimagined slice of ‘80s nostalgia leave shelves already is disappointing. A relatively limited window of availability is usually a good recipe for an increase in aftermarket value post-retirement, too – so you’ll want to bump this LEGO Pirates set up to the top of your wishlist while you have the chance.

2 – 71741 NINJAGO City Gardens
Price: £299.99 / $349.99 / €349.99 Pieces: 5,685 Release date: February 1, 2021

If the first two LEGO NINJAGO City sets are anything to go by, 71741 NINJAGO City Gardens could prove to be a wise investment while it’s still on shelves – if only to avoid paying hugely inflated aftermarket prices to complete your collection of LEGO NINJAGO modular buildings. This one likely won’t jump quite as high as its predecessors, but you’re still better off snapping it up straight from LEGO.com.

1 – 75313 AT-AT
Price: £734.99 / $849.99 / €849.99 Pieces: 6,782 Release date: November 26, 2021

There are only three certainties in life: death, taxes, and recycled LEGO Star Wars sets. But given it took the LEGO Group 22 years to finally deliver an Ultimate Collector Series AT-AT, it’s tough to imagine when we might next see one of these fearsome Imperial machines stomping on to shelves. Make no mistake: 75313 AT-AT requires a hefty investment. But if there’s one retiring LEGO set worth saving up for in 2024, it’s this one.
