Spider-Punk follows up first LEGO minifigure with his own animated movie

It’s a big week for Spider-Punk, who’s following up his first LEGO minifigure with his own spin-off animated movie from co-writers Daniel Kaluuya and Ajon Singh.

The Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse breakout star is one of the stand-out characters in September’s Collectible Minifigures series, which was unveiled by the LEGO Group at the beginning of August. Deadline now reports that Sony Pictures Animation is developing a Spider-Punk-focused spin-off movie, written by Kaluuya – who voiced the character in Across the Spider-Verse – and Singh, who penned upcoming A24 film Primetime.

Also known as Hobie Brown, Spider-Punk is an anti-establishment and alternate-universe Spider-Man who debuted on the silver screen in 2023’s Across the Spider-Verse, and will return in 2027’s Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse. That trilogy closer has been delayed enough times – and has a release date so far out – that the real question now is… which of these movies will arrive first?

If the production lives up to the demanding schedule of the mainline Spider-Verse movies, we’re probably even further out from seeing this Spider-Punk spin-off materialise on the big screen. But you just know that when the time comes, the LEGO Spider-Punk minifigure – which will have been off shelves for years by then – will cost a pretty penny. Even more reason to dive into 71050 Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse in September…
